STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- Naturalist Cliff Hagen ran out of time last year in his search for a common redpoll, but he did spot 249 bird species on Staten Island -- a borough record -- and in the process raised $7,000 for the environmental and conservation group, Protectors of Pine Oak Woods.
