Today, usually referred to as The Today Show to avoid ambiguity, is an American morning news and talk show airing weekday mornings on the NBC television network. Premiering on January 14, 1952, it was the first of its genre, spawning similar morning news and entertainment television programs across the country and around the world. The show is also the third-longest running American television series. Today has been the highest-rated morning news and talk show in the United States since the week of December 11, 1995. Originally a two-hour program, it expanded to three hours in 2000 and to four hours in 2007; weekend versions were added in 1987 (Sunday, currently one hour) and 1992 (Saturday, two hours).
