A pork barrel, literally, is a barrel in which pork is kept. The term is more commonly used as a political metaphor for the appropriation of government spending for projects that are intended primarily to benefit particular constituents or campaign contributors. This usage originated in American English.

Here it comes folks - Lets rack up the national debt and all ride the stimulus package train for all its worth. This is our moment to stuff any meaningful bill full of pork barrel spend that can buy the next election.

(CNN) -- Most members of Congress call them earmarks. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi tried to get them called "legislatively directed spending." But for almost every American taxpayer I've run into over the last year, it's called "pork" and it's not very tasty.

Boehner: "Congress should ... [adopt] an immediate moratorium on all earmarks and establishing a panel to determine ways to end wasteful pork-barrel spending."

Pelosi stopped a Repulican moratorium which would have stopped PBS for a year. She wants to form a bipartisin panel to "STUDY" PBS. Another D.C. ploy to keep poking PBS in every bill while GWB is in office to add to his "Conservative" spending total. This is SOP, "Standing Operating Procedure" by professional, political parasites for voting morons.

The buy-in to McCain is about as sad as it gets, I imagine. Let's look at fact versus fiction on his economic qualifications and record on pork barrel spending, shall we?
