Dean Martin (born Dino Paul Crocetti, June 7, 1917 – December 25, 1995) was an American singer, film actor, and comedian. He was one of the most famous music artists in the 1950s and 1960s. His hit singles included the songs "Memories Are Made Of This", "That's Amore", "Everybody Loves Somebody", "Mambo Italiano", "Sway", "Volare" and "Ain't That a Kick in the Head". He was a major star in four areas of show business: concert stage, recordings, motion pictures, and television.

Dean Martin Celebrity Roasts came about in the final season of Dean Martin's variety show (The Dean Martin Show), when it was declining in popularity. They added a celebrity roast feature to try to pick up the rating, which proved very popular to television audiences. After the show's cancellation, Martin signed a contract with NBC to do Celebrity.
