Coney Island hot dog (also Coney dog) refers to two different kinds of hot dogs.In some areas, it is a hot dog made from beef with casing, topped with an all meat chili, diced yellow onion and yellow mustard. This type of dog was primarily developed in Michigan, and served there and in the "heartland" states; that is, the non-coastal states of the U.S.In other areas, most notably central and western New York, a Coney is a white hot dog, a stronger and more spicey variety of the traditional pork hot dog. These are sometimes also referred to as "white hots." Coney dogs of this variety are usually served bare or with mustard.

A little-known section of Coney Island's redevelopment plans could turn legendary hot dog haven Nathan's Famous into a towering wiener wonderland with clubs, stores and hotel rooms.

Coney Island's Astroland will be closed down at the end of the summer. Rockabilly kids probably will be replaced by people with time shares, the old facades torn down, hot dog stands replaced by restaurants, freak shows replaced by concerts…

I wonder how many of these rules were broken this past Wednesday on Coney Island.

With 66 HDBs (hot dogs and buns) eaten in 12 minutes, Joey Chestnut was crowned the new World Hot Dog Easting Champion on July 4th, in front of a screaming Coney Island crowd. He inhaled his way through 1 hot dog every 10.9 seconds on average, stealing the crown from Takeru Kobayashi, the once 6-time champ.
