Chain food forest

Trees may not sprout from the ocean, but that doesn't stop one expert from talking about the need to save the ocean's 'forests.' That's how Noel Brown, former head of the United Nations Environment Programme, refers to the oceans' supply of plankton, the tiny plant life that is the base of the ocean's food chain.
The report follows a 7,000km chain that starts with the clearing of virgin forest by farmers and leads directly to Chicken McNuggets being sold in British and European fast food restaurants. It also alleges that much of the soya animal feed arriving in the UK from Brazil is a product of "forest crime".
When we think about Earth’s sources of oxygen, we usually think of vast forests such as the Amazon, but about half of the oxygen we breathe comes from elsewhere; it’s produced by phytoplankton. Phytoplankton also serve as the base of the oceanic food chain. This image shows nine years of ocean chlorophyll from phytoplankton.
