DISH Network is a direct broadcast satellite (DBS) service that provides satellite television, audio programming, and interactive television services to households and businesses in the United States, owned by parent company DISH Network Corporation. DISH Network was launched in March 1996, and, along with DirecTV, primarily competes with cable television providers throughout the United States. They have registered as a Nevada corporation. The corporate office is based at Meridian, Colorado, though the postal designation of nearby Englewood is commonly listed as the company's location in corporate filings and news accounts.

TiVo won a key victory in its legal battle to reclaim the DVR technology it pioneered after a federal appeals court affirmed that EchoStar and Dish Network have been illegally using the software. TiVo won yet another victory in its long-running patent infringement battle against Dish Network. A federal appeals court has upheld the lower court's ruling and damage award, and Dish Network is likely to be forced to shut off its DVR service once the appeal becomes final.

Dish Networks have lost it's appeal of infringing against TiVo's software patent. The injunction that ordered Dish to stop providing DVR service that had been held while the case was under appeal will now been reinstated once the appeal is finalized. Basically Dish will be pay license fees to TiVo or shut down their DVR service.
