Central Market is a gourmet grocery store chain owned by San Antonio, Texas-based H.E. Butt Grocery Company. It specializes in high-quality, hard-to-find gourmet foods. Most locations also have a full-service kitchen, offer cooking and wine classes in their culinary school, and offer catering services. Each store is more than 75,000 square feet. As of December 2007 they have eight locations, all of which are in Texas. There are plans to open stores outside of Texas, although a date has not yet been confirmed. Stores opened outside of Texas will be similar in size to the newest store in Southlake, featuring less square footage. Central Market was named "Outstanding Specialty Food Retailer" by Specialty Food Magazine and the National Association for Specialty Food Trade.

As of today, Whole Foods Markets in Austin no longer will offer disposable plastic bags at checkout. The Coalition for Airline Passengers Bill of Rights was formed by hundreds of passengers who were stranded on several American Airlines planes for up to 9 hours at Austin International Airport, December 2006. They say that during that time, the airline denied them food, water or access to working bathroom facilities.
