Be they Atkins, South Beach, High Carb, Low Carb, or High Protein, they are all the rage. They do provide one major problem, though! What do you do once you've reached your goals? Have you prepared for what will happen once you DO reach your goal? Chances are, at least on average, you have not...

"The problem: My diet doesn't fit any of the usual descriptions. It's not low-carb, low-fat, or high-protein. I'm not a vegetarian, and I haven't sworn off sugar. The truth is, I eat almost everything. And that's what makes it so effective."

You have heard all the hype about low carbohydrate and high protein diets. You have even seen a few people who look great after following these programs. They look thinner and healthier then they did before. This is good news for them. The problem is that it many not help them much in the long run and can actually cause serious health problems.

Are you finding it a problem to keep the proportion of protein in your diet high enough? Are you struggling to follow a “Carb Restricted” diet plan as part of your weight loss program?

Diet high problem protein

A high protein diet is often recommended by bodybuilders and nutritionists to help efforts to build muscle and lose fat. It should not be confused with low-carb diets such as the Atkins Diet, which are not calorie-controlled and which often contain large amounts of fat. While adequate protein is required for building skeletal muscle and various other tissues, there is ongoing debate regarding the use and necessity of high protein diets in weight training and bodybuilding. Various sources advise people to consume anywhere from 0.6 to 1.5g of protein per pound of bodyweight per day (1.4–3.3g per kg) . However, many medical professionals believe that consuming more protein than the Recommended Dietary Allowance provides no benefits, and that the excess is merely burnt for energy or excreted. HazardsRelatively little evidence has been gathered regarding the effect of protein on the development of chronic diseases and more research is needed to better understand protein's role in bone health. While there was initial suspicion that high protein diets increased the risk for renal failure, studies have shown that kidney problems occur only in people with pre-existing kidney disease . (Still, it should be noted that such problems may become apparent only when the stress of extra protein is applied to the kidneys.) Similarly, the long-held concern that it could worsen hepatic encephalopathy (brain disease due to malfunction of the liver) appears to be ungrounded. The increased load on the kidney is a result of an increase in reabsorption of NaCl. This causes a decrease the sensitivity of tubuloglomerular feedback, which, in turn, results in an increased glomerular filtration rate. This increases pressure in glomerular capillaries. When added to any additional renal disease, this may cause permanent glomerular damage. OligospermiaA high protein diet is sometimes used as a treatment of oligospermia in lack of anything better.. However, there is no proven effect.
